night/day.

It’s that time of the month again, and no, I’m not talking about the gross one. The time in which I am refering to, is NEW MAE SONG TIME!!
The song is “Night/Day” and like always, it is available for a $1 donation [although the more you give, the more they can give to charity]. As of 4/21/09, Mae has raised almost $35,000 for “Rhonda’s House” [which means they only have about $25,000 left before they choose a new charity to help.]
This month’s track feels like two entirely different songs, but they still remain linked. The beginning of the track is dark and brooding [like my soul] but it also sounds a little hopeful too. Around midway through the track, the entire mood changes. The second half of the song is much more upbeat and triumphant sounding.
The thing about this project, is that Mae is really trying to create phenomenal songs and they really care about the fans. I did an interview with Jacob Marshall [Mae's drummer] and when I asked him about the project his entire tone changed from being this really “chill” dude to this ultra-intense activist type guy that was incredibly inspiring.
The band intends on doing something with Donor’s Choose, an online charity organization that donates supplies to education [you get to pick the classroom project you want to give to, and give any amount you want.] After finishing up the “Rhonda’s House” Project, they will be working extensively with Donor’s Choose. In closing, he told me there are big things coming ahead and that if you can, go to see one of their shows during this tour. I’ve got my ticket to the May 30th show at the NorVa already.

the new iPod shuffle.
April 8th, 2009 § 2 Comments
Okay, technology is getting way too small. Case in point: the new iPod Shuffle.
The new Shuffle is about the size of a baby carrot [or my first thought, a suppository]. One headphone, is literally half the size of the whole mp3 player. What would possess Apple to do such a thing?

3rd Generation iPod Shuffle.
I think Apple just wants to be the “MOST” at everything. This new shuffle is advertised as “The world’s smallest music player also happens to be the world’s first talking one. Two things that make the iPod shuffle one amazing device.” Why is that so important? Apple could probably sell anything they make, simply because there is a huge portion of the population that will buy their products, just for the sake of staying “hip” [I'm being slightly hypocritical since I bought a new orange iPod Nano, mostly because I needed a new iPod, but partly because it was orange and sexy].
Some cool things about the new shuffle:
- It holds 1000 songs. Yep, that’s right, it has 4gb of space.
- It talks. HOW COOL IS THAT! My iPod is now aware of what is going on and can talk to me.
- The VoiceOver technology [which I want to call iTalk] speaks 14 languages.
- You can have multiple playlists on your Shuffle, and you can change between them. Score.
- It’s super fashionable! It can even match your $300 shoes!
Some negative things about the shuffle:
- It is 1.8″ tall, and 0.3″ thin. What the hell? Nothing I know is that small.
- The buttons were moved to the headphones cord. I mean, that sounds like a good idea, but what if you lose your headphones? I’ll tell you what happens, you can’t use your iPod anymore and now you have a really expensive, really tiny, silent paper weight [that weighs less than paper].
- It only comes in two colors…Greyish White and Black.
I think the new iPod Shuffle might possibly be the best one they’ve made, even if it has a lot of ridiculous attributes. All in all, it might be tiny, but so is the price – $79.

.the hazards of love.
March 19th, 2009 § 2 Comments
I did it again. I spent more money on iTunes. This should really be called “The Hazards of iTunes”, but it’s about the Decemberists new album, not Apple’s addictive music program.
So I bought The Hazards of Love the day it came out [on iTunes. The album doesn't come out in stores until March 24] and I’ll be honest, I didn’t know what to think. It’s 17 tracks [which is slightly ridiculous] and each song plays out almost like a chapter in a novel [which is awesome].
Side Note: For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Decemberists [which is most of the planet], they play “folk-ish” type music with a story behind it. Every album has a “main character” and their songs play out his tale. This is why the Decemberists are fantastic.
I really like the album art.
The Hazards of Love has a story that sounds like something you’d hear out of England. There is a Queen[who is never named, but who is sung by Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamond]. Then there is Margaret, the unwitting woman who falls in love with a guy [Margaret is sung by Lavender Diamond's Becky Stark]. And then there is the strapping young lad, who is actually a shape-shifting forest creature, [yeah, that threw me off too.] sung by Colin Meloy, lead singer of The Decemberists.
The album is a lot different as far as music goes. Usually, their albums are big orchestral numbers [like "The Mariner's Revenge" off of Picaresque].
Side Note: I saw the Decemberists and My Brightest Diamond live in 2007, and their performance of “The Mariner’s Revenge” was awesome. The song is almost 9 minutes long, and they ended the show with it. It was awesome.
Anyway, the album is pretty dark as far as lyrics/music goes. It’s a big turn from The Crain Wife [2006] which was relatively happy, even during the sadder songs.
This album is hard to swallow at first, even for fans, but let it grow on you and you’ll learn to love it.
The Hazards of Love is available for purchase on iTunes for $9.99 and will be available at retailers nationwide [for more money] on March 24.

I think my next post is going to be a video-blog. I think they are interesting…maybe I’ll give it a shot and see how much of an idiot I can make myself out to be.
So…this’ll probably happen later today. Stay tuned…
The Abortion Issue.
January 21st, 2009 § 1 Comment
First off: the song of the day is Vices by Anti-Flag off of their new album The Bright Lights of America.
So we were having a legitimate discussion about Abortion at my job today [WE being Eric, Neil, and myself]. Anyway, the subject of Abortion somehow came up as we were all playing Call of Duty 4 on Xbox Live together. Here is what we came up with:
Neil: is a social Conservative and a political Liberal. He doesn’t think abortion is okay, but this is only from a moral standpoint [this also does not make Neil a bad person]. Neil does, however, think the government shouldn’t be allowed to dictate what you do and with whom you do it with.
Eric: doesn’t really care what people do with their time. He doesn’t think abortion is right, per say, but thinks people should be allowed to control their bodies.
Myself: I’m very apathetic about abortion, I don’t really care, I’m not a woman, I can’t give birth, therefore, I can’t make decisions about those that can and do. I was raised to care about it…but I really just don’t…
We did all agree, however, on the fact that slutty girls should not be allowed to get as many abortions as they want. We agreed that you should be allowed ONE, incase something happens or you don’t plan on getting knocked up. So…save it up!
Abortion is one of those issues people are never going to agree on, just like Religion and Gay Rights and everything else. The government, however, shouldn’t be allowed to dictate what you do with your body or who you do it with [except when it comes to the age of consent...that is important and should be upheld...pedophiles are gross].
I don’t think abortion will ever be resolved…same with gay rights. It’s sad really…everyone deserves a chance to be happy, just because some Conservatives and Liberals need something to argue about, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be allowed to.
Anyway, later kids.
Cody.
