the fall of death cab for cutie.

I never thought it would happen…but can’t listen to Death Cab for Cutie ever again. No, they didn’t break up (which actually might be better than what they really did). No, none of the members died in a car/bus/plane crash. No, they just sold out. They sold their soul to the devil that is Twilight.

Meet Me on the Equinox

“Meet Me on the Equinox” is the first single off of the New Moon soundtrack. I’m not going to lie and say the song is terrible and atrocious and a travesty because its not. Its a decent song. Its even a decent song by Death Cab standards.

What breaks my heart, though, is that Ben Gibbard sold out. Death Cab for Cutie is the epitome of indie rock success. They just recently went to a major label after being on an indie one for nearly a decade. I can’t help but think this is all Zooey Deschanel’s fault. Everything was just fine in the world of perfect indie rock heaven until she came along.

Caution: This might come off as a “man crush” towards Ben Gibbard. I will assure you that it is not…it is a real crush.*

Anyway, since she came along…they haven’t come to Norfolk [they haven't come to Norfolk since 2006, so this is purely speculation]. I’m listening to Transatlanticism and Plans just because I feel like I need to mourn the loss of the Ben Gibbard that I know and love. Their last good album, mind you, was Plans [2005]. Long before he met her.

So my thesis is this: If Ben Gibbard was not engaged to Zooey Deschanel, terrorism would stop.

That’s all. I sadly can’t listen to Death Cab ever again…oh well. Good thing I have all their albums…and a shirt…and a poster, eh? I’m going to put them all in a shoebox and burn them…just like if he broke up with me :(

Cody.
