local bands you oughta know.

I’ve compiled a list of some local bands that are worth listening to. By local bands, I am referring to bands that are local to me [Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, Hampton].
#1. The Tripps – Hailing from Virginia Beach, The Tripps are Sam Barrett [Guitar/Piano/Vocals], David Cuffee III [Saxophone, Keyboard], Cameron King [Bass Guitar], Greg Meekins [Drums]. The Tripps have two albums, Branch Out [an EP of sorts] and A Sidereal Day. I like Branch Out a little better than A Sidereal Day, it just feels more real. You should look them up.

#2. Tokyo - Tokyo, also from Virginia Beach recently finished a nationwide tour with Mae, Barcelona, and PersonL [fronted by Kenny Vasoli, formerly of The Starting Line]. They’ve released an EP, Swan King – EP, back in 2008. However, Tokyo, in my opinion, is better live [which is odd for a band]. There drums sound better live and the vocals [Robert Smith - Keyboard/Vocals] have a clearer sound to them. They were also pretty funny on stage between songs, so I’m going to promote them. There music is good, so go listen.

#3. Mae —> I don’t know that I can accurately call Mae a local band anymore since they have fans all over the globe [They are playing a show in Bandung, Indonesia on July 26]. Mae comes from Norfolk, Va. and were founded in 2001. The name Mae, which stands for “Multi-sensory Aesthetic Experience”, was chosen because of a class Drummer Jacob Marshall took at Old Dominion University. They have reached wide recognition and an immense amount of success [3 full length albums and soon to be 6 EPs]. You’ll love their music, and it might become the soundtrack to your life.

I looked for a bunch of other ones…but sadly I couldn’t find anything I liked [which isn't entirely true. I tried to contact a friend's band because they are actually pretty good, but he was busy.] Anyway, enjoy.
Cody.

I think you should check out Averman great local band.
Two other bands to check out are SeedIs… (jazz/funk/reggae/rock/rap fusion) and The As-1 Band (funky jazz)…
Thanks. I appreciate it.
