Hey everybody, and welcome to another segment of “Songs You Should Have On Your iPod”! So get those mouses ready to download these songs at your leisure.
[Side Note: If anyone knows how to setup something to where I can make these songs available for download, tell me and I'll do that. CK]
#1. “Clouds” by The Morning Light off of their self-titled album The Morning Light. I was sent this song in a mix from a friend [thanks!] and I really enjoy their music.
#2. “Gimme Sympathy” by Metric off of their new album Fantasies. I just discovered Metric a few weeks ago and this is one of my favorite songs by them.
#3. “Phone Call” by Forever the Sickest Kids off of their album Underdog Alma Mater. This is a fantastic song.
#4. “Coffee Break” by Forever the Sickest Kids off of Underdog Alma Mater. I know that I never have two songs by the same band in the same list, but this is a great song too.
#5. “This Place Is A Prison” by The Postal Service off of their album Give Up. The Postal Service is one of those bands you hope and pray comes out of hiatus because they were just that good. While it’s doubtful, it’s still a possibility. Keep your fingers crossed.
#6. “Aesthetics” by The Outline off of their album You Smash It, We’ll Build Around It. I was also sent this song in a mix by the same friend [thanks again!]. I heard it in her car and I love it. The guitar is dark and sounds like something you’d hear in a movie or horror video game.
Well, that should get you through the week. If you have any suggestions, email me —> yoklookie@gmail.com or leave a comment.

It’s that time of the month again, and no, I’m not talking about the gross one. The time in which I am refering to, is NEW MAE SONG TIME!!
The song is “Night/Day” and like always, it is available for a $1 donation [although the more you give, the more they can give to charity]. As of 4/21/09, Mae has raised almost $35,000 for “Rhonda’s House” [which means they only have about $25,000 left before they choose a new charity to help.]
This month’s track feels like two entirely different songs, but they still remain linked. The beginning of the track is dark and brooding [like my soul] but it also sounds a little hopeful too. Around midway through the track, the entire mood changes. The second half of the song is much more upbeat and triumphant sounding.
The thing about this project, is that Mae is really trying to create phenomenal songs and they really care about the fans. I did an interview with Jacob Marshall [Mae's drummer] and when I asked him about the project his entire tone changed from being this really “chill” dude to this ultra-intense activist type guy that was incredibly inspiring.
The band intends on doing something with Donor’s Choose, an online charity organization that donates supplies to education [you get to pick the classroom project you want to give to, and give any amount you want.] After finishing up the “Rhonda’s House” Project, they will be working extensively with Donor’s Choose. [link here ---> Donor's Choose ]
In closing, he told me there are big things coming ahead and that if you can, go to see one of their shows during this tour. I’ve got my ticket to the May 30th show at the NorVa already.

man, i love college.
April 20th, 2009 § Leave a Comment
Meet Asher Roth. Asher loves college, drinking his beer and smoking his weed, yes, he loves college. But before I get to far in to quoting the lyrics from “I Love College”, I’m going to talk about a relatively unknown rapper from Philly whose song has become the college anthem. And also critique his new album, which fittingly came out today.
Asher Roth was born in a small-town [the suburbs] outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1985. In an interview with XXL magazine, Roth said he came from a school of 500, to a school with a graduating class of 1000. A lot of the interview in XXL asked about Roth’s growing up and his lack of pigmentation. Yes, Asher Roth, is a white guy. [And so begins his imminent comparison (also brought up in the interview) to Eminem].
Well, regardless of being Caucasian and growing up with both parents in a relatively safe neighborhood, Roth has talent.

Now we move on to Asleep In the Bread Aisle. I, of course, purchased it off of iTunes this morning for $7.99 [if you're just now joining me for the first time, I'm addicted to buying music off of iTunes]. It did, however, take me about twenty minutes to decide whether or not I wanted to buy this album or not.
My internal debate —–>
Thesis: How bad could it be? “I Love College” is a decent song, maybe the whole album will be decent/slightly better than decent.
Argument: It could be awful, and you could be wasting your money, idiot. Save some f’ing money for once.
Counter-Argument: Or it could be phenomenal. So there.
Conclusion: I clicked “Buy Album” and told myself to suck it.
I’m glad I bought it. This is one of the best albums by a white-male rapper I’ve heard in a long time, possibly ever. The album opens with the second single “Lark On My Go-Kart” where he talks about being a pro at Mario Kart among other things. The album just flows nicely from track to track and even has a few guest appearances by some legitimate rappers [Busta Rhymes, Cee-Lo].
The lyrics are great, by the way. He shows that you don’t have to be controversial to be a good rapper. Sure, he raps about drinking, smoking weed, college sex, etc, but it’s not even that flammable of a substance.
So here, if you want something different, something good for your ears, and something relatively cheap, buy it.

you’ve been bamboozled.

There is a rumor going around that Sublime is getting back together for the Bamboozle Music Festival [link here --> thebamboozle.com ]. Now, the site says that only the original saxophone player [Todd Forman] will be there, but rumors have been spreading that the rest of the band, including an all new lead singer [Rome, a native of Newport Beach, California], will be there to perform.
[Update!] – On Raw Sessions’ YouTube page [link here --> Raw Sessions ] “Sublime reunion! We are proud to present to you Sublime’s new front singer “Rome” from Newport Beach, CA. S*blime.” So it seems to be confirmed that it is in fact happening.
[Update! 2] – “Saw Red” by Sublime being performed by Rome and Kat…and Sublime! [link here --> Saw Red ]
What’s your take? What do you hope happens or do you think this is just a bunch of crap? Leave some comments and let me know.

songs you should have on your iPod – april 15th, 2009.

To those of you that still actually read my blog, thanks. And sorry I haven’t been as faithful in posting recently. I’m trying to get back on top of things.
So here is the list:
#1. “Love, Reign O’er Me” by The Who off of Quadrophenia. This song is epic, and I love it. Pearl Jam also has a version that isn’t bad either, I almost prefer it. [This song is also referenced/sang about a dozen times in the film Reign Over Me.]
#2. “Whatever You Like (Raw Session)” by Rome. This is a cover of T.I.’s song “Whatever You Like” which is about popping bottles and treating a girl right. I like this version better. You can watch the “Raw Session” on YouTube [click the link]. And Rome is the new singer for Sublime, who are reuniting. Get excited.
#3. “Atleast I’m Not As Sad (As I Used to Be)” by fun. off of their upcoming album Aim and Ignite. fun. is the new band by members of the Format. That’s right, the Format is making a new band and I’m ecstatic. This song is available for download for free if you sign up for fun.’s newsletter.
#4. “Night/Day” by Mae off of their upcoming EP (m)orning. Each song Mae releases seems to get better and better this year, which makes me even happier that I’m donating to charity. [download it here --> whatismae.com ]
#5. “This is the Life” by Amy Macdonald off of This is the Life. I heard Macdonald on a tv in American Eagle and I put her name down on my phone and looked her up when I got home. Macdonald won Scotland’s Person of the Year Award in 2007.
Here you go. Go download and enjoy.

the new iPod shuffle.
April 8th, 2009 § 2 Comments
Okay, technology is getting way too small. Case in point: the new iPod Shuffle.
The new Shuffle is about the size of a baby carrot [or my first thought, a suppository]. One headphone, is literally half the size of the whole mp3 player. What would possess Apple to do such a thing?

3rd Generation iPod Shuffle.
I think Apple just wants to be the “MOST” at everything. This new shuffle is advertised as “The world’s smallest music player also happens to be the world’s first talking one. Two things that make the iPod shuffle one amazing device.” Why is that so important? Apple could probably sell anything they make, simply because there is a huge portion of the population that will buy their products, just for the sake of staying “hip” [I'm being slightly hypocritical since I bought a new orange iPod Nano, mostly because I needed a new iPod, but partly because it was orange and sexy].
Some cool things about the new shuffle:
- It holds 1000 songs. Yep, that’s right, it has 4gb of space.
- It talks. HOW COOL IS THAT! My iPod is now aware of what is going on and can talk to me.
- The VoiceOver technology [which I want to call iTalk] speaks 14 languages.
- You can have multiple playlists on your Shuffle, and you can change between them. Score.
- It’s super fashionable! It can even match your $300 shoes!
Some negative things about the shuffle:
- It is 1.8″ tall, and 0.3″ thin. What the hell? Nothing I know is that small.
- The buttons were moved to the headphones cord. I mean, that sounds like a good idea, but what if you lose your headphones? I’ll tell you what happens, you can’t use your iPod anymore and now you have a really expensive, really tiny, silent paper weight [that weighs less than paper].
- It only comes in two colors…Greyish White and Black.
I think the new iPod Shuffle might possibly be the best one they’ve made, even if it has a lot of ridiculous attributes. All in all, it might be tiny, but so is the price – $79.
