It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for the weekly song list! Get excited people because now you can download the suggestions and actually PUT them on your iPod.

Here goes:

#1: “It’s About Time” by Barcelona off of Absolutes. This song is beautiful. Its deep and poetic while still being upbeat. Download it —> http://tinyurl.com/cxagc9

#2: “1, 2, 3, 4 [I Love You]” by Plain White T’s off of Big Bad World. This is such a catchy love song. Enjoy it, its adorable. Download it —> http://tinyurl.com/c6wn3f

#3: “Sky” by Joshua Radin feat. Ingrid Michaelson off of Simple Thing. This sadly might be one of the most depressing/sad songs I’ve ever heard…but its beautiful. Download it —> http://tinyurl.com/cqys6z

#4: “Honest [Apologies Endless]” by The Morning Light off of The Morning Light. This song mentions Virginia and Seattle, the place I want to leave and the place I want to run to. Download it —> http://tinyurl.com/cg6b2c

#5: “Richman” by 3OH!3 off of Want. I really like all of 3OH!3′s music. It’s just a lot of fun and they have pretty decent beats. Download it —> http://tinyurl.com/cytboe

#6: “Studying Politics” by Emery off of The Question. Emery is a pretty solid band and this is one of my favorite songs by them. Download it —> http://tinyurl.com/da4qsa

#7: “Like A Boss” by The Lonely Island off of Incredibad. This song makes me laugh incredibadly [awful pun] hard everytime I hear it. Download it —> http://tinyurl.com/dynjle

So I’ve been a fan of Barcelona [http://tinyurl.com/dlcx5z] for a little over a year now, and I’m not talking about Spain [although I hear it is lovely this time of year].

Barcelona is an indie/rock band from Seattle, Washington [because all of the best things come from around Seattle, except for the Seahawks] that was formed in 2004-05. The band released Safety Songs [which was written by the band's lead singer as a solo-project] and it was received well enough [since they are still a band].

Absolutes by BarcelonaThey’re real debut album, however, was received much better by critics. Absolutes was released in September of 2007. The band was signed to Universal in 2008 and a remastered version of Absolutes [with a few new tracks] was released today at the fantastic price of only $7.99.

I’ve listened to the album a few times so far and I have to say, it sounds a lot better now that a major label has done some work to it. The production values are a lot better than the last pressing and I’m really digging the new tracks.

If you’d like to get samples of all the tracks [except for the three new ones]  —> [ http://tinyurl.com/dynhbp ]

This is my favorite track —> [http://tinyurl.com/crm4m4]

Another thing about Barcelona, is that they’re on tour with Mae with year. And I get to see them both. Excited? Yes.

Listen. Download. Enjoy.

in the summertime.

April 27th, 2009 § Leave a Comment

So pretty much, it’s hot as Hell today. Literally. Hell and Virginia Beach [which are synonymous anyways] are the exact same temperature. Walking to class has been a chore today and a lot like a sauna [hooray humidity!].

Today feels like the beginning of the worst season, yes, summer. But it also reminded me of one of my favorite songs

Take a look at the awesome vintage sideburns…I am definitely jealous.

I don’t really have anything of huge massive substance, just this. If you liked the song and want to download it, click here —> In The Summertime by Mungo Joe.

Enjoy, and stay cool everyone.

madden nfl 10.

April 26th, 2009 § Leave a Comment

With John Madden’s recent announcement that he is retiring from broadcasting [ http://tinyurl.com/cjezj3 ] a lot of people weren’t really sure what would happen to the beloved virtually monopolistic football franchise. Well Madden NFL ’10 is slated for release on August 14, 2009 for the 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, and Wii and I’m sure a DSi launch will happen too. [ http://tinyurl.com/craxz8 ]

This edition of Madden looks beautiful. I know people always say “Oh my God! That looks sooooo real!” and it makes you want to punch them in the face because real life does not look like that, but I’m going to say it: “Oh my God! That looks sooooo real!” because it does.

The game will feature two NFL superstars on the front cover this year, a first for the franchise. The two players were recently announced to be  Pittsburgh Steelers Safety Troy Polamalu and Arizona Cardinals Wide Receiver Larry Fitzgerald [ http://tinyurl.com/daazww ]. Never have two players graced the cover of the same Madden box. This brings up the question though, will both of them be able to escape the “Madden Curse” which has cost the seasons and careers of many of football’s greatest stars? Or will only one suffer and the other escape unscaithed.

Run, Larry, Run!

Run, Larry, Run!

Apart from much better graphics, a new “mode” or anything else jaw-dropping has yet to be released about the new game.

I don’t know if I’m going to get it or not…even though I’ve gotten every Madden game since 2001 [except for Madden 08, which ironically had Vince Young on the cover].  Who knows, but I’m sure I’ll sucumb to the pressure of having money to spend and I’ll end up buying it. Anyways…that’s all.

blog broadening.

April 24th, 2009 § 2 Comments

So I think I’m going to start writing about other forms of media rather than just music. While, music will [hopefully] remain my main focus, I am probably going to broaden it to movies, news commentary [this is for sure up in the air], video games, and books [if I read anything good].

I’m not sure if this is what I really need to do, but I’m finding it hard to find something musical to discuss on a daily basis. So tomorrow will be my first foray in to new media [except for the last post, which was technically my first attempt since it was a video game although it was a music video game...anyways...]

So stay tuned, big things are taking place.

It’s official, what I thought could only be a cruel and confusing joke, has been confirmed as the next Rock Band installment.

Brett Micheals as a Lego...God help us.

Brett Micheals as a Lego...God help us.

Lego Rock Band [yeah, I just said that] was confirmed Tuesday by Harmonix, MTV Games, and Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment. The game will be released sometime in 2009 [most likely in time for kids to put it on their list to Santa Claus] for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and Nintendo DSi.

Players will be able to customize their characters using an array of little Lego pieces to make their rock star look completely adorable and non-threatening, while also looking like they have Jaundice.

There will [obviously] be the usual sized track list [40-50 songs]. And while the full list of tracks has not been released yet, several tracks were released to the press. GameSpot.com named them as…

“The Final Countdown” by Europe
“Kung Fu Fighting” by Carl Douglas
“So What” by Pink
“Song 2″ by Blur

This is not a very impressive list of songs, and I feel like Rock Band’s trifecta of publishers is just trying to tap in to another market, but sadly by dumbing down a revolutionary game concept. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Lego brand and they’ve made some pretty solid video games [Lego StarWars, Lego Indiana Jones, even Lego Batman was cool], I don’t think the Lego name needs to go in front of Rock Band.

Maybe this game will prove me wrong, but as of now, the song list is awful and I am not a believer.
