.songs you should have on your ipod: march 23, 2009.
March 23rd, 2009 § 2 Comments
I’m going to start doing a weekly Top 5 songs you should have on your iPod for the week. [actually, keep the songs for good, the list will just last a week]

iRock.
So, here goes!
Song #1 – “A Melody, The Memory” by Mae. This song was released in March as part of the “12 Songs. 12 Months. 1 Goal. Make a Difference” campaign. It is available for a $1 download on their website. [see my other post to learn more about the charity and the songs].
Song #2 – “Transatlanticism” by Death Cab for Cutie off of Transatlanticism. This song just describes the feeling of the season, I think. It’s not quite Spring [so love is not quite in the air, just yet].
Song #3 – “Spit In the Face” by Anti-Flag off of The Bright Lights of America. This song just pumps you up [if you're in to anti-establishment punk rock, which I am]
Song #4 – “Jolene” by The White Stripes. Yes, I know this song was originally by Dolly Parton but I like the White Stripes version better. The sheer fact that Jack White can hit some of those notes is impressive to me. However, don’t look for this song on iTunes [you'll only find a video of the song done live]. Look to Limewire or any other illegal downloading program.
Song #5 – “Gives You Hell” by The All-American Rejects off of their new album When the World Comes Down. I used to listen to the Rejects way back when and I recently rediscovered them. They’ve been making a lot of good songs [and were on the previous version of Rock Band & Rock Band 2]. This song is pretty good.
I hope you enjoy my list, if you have any suggestions of music you like that I should like to, email me or comment me.

Not Without A Fight
So, I was not a fan of New Found Glory until recently. I would make regular jokes at the expense of my friend Eric that the band should actually be called “New Found Talent, but only out of irony” [yes...I am well aware that I am a jerk.] but upon hearing their new album, Not Without a Fight, they have a new fan.
The album starts off with “Right Where We Left Off” [fitting huh?] and it hooks you right from the beginning. The intro is fantastic and sets the mood for the rest of the album.
My favorite track off of the album is “Listen to Your Friends” [it was also the first single off of the album]. Something about the song just rubs me the right way, the vocals are great and the music behind them is also pretty great.
The album ends with the song “Don’t Let This Be the End”, and I hope it’s not.
More to come later.
Cody.
p.s. my bad Eric. Thanks for the free CD.
.the hazards of love.

I did it again. I spent more money on iTunes. This should really be called “The Hazards of iTunes”, but it’s about the Decemberists new album, not Apple’s addictive music program.
So I bought The Hazards of Love the day it came out [on iTunes. The album doesn't come out in stores until March 24] and I’ll be honest, I didn’t know what to think. It’s 17 tracks [which is slightly ridiculous] and each song plays out almost like a chapter in a novel [which is awesome].
Side Note: For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Decemberists [which is most of the planet], they play “folk-ish” type music with a story behind it. Every album has a “main character” and their songs play out his tale. This is why the Decemberists are fantastic.
I really like the album art.
The Hazards of Love has a story that sounds like something you’d hear out of England. There is a Queen[who is never named, but who is sung by Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamond]. Then there is Margaret, the unwitting woman who falls in love with a guy [Margaret is sung by Lavender Diamond's Becky Stark]. And then there is the strapping young lad, who is actually a shape-shifting forest creature, [yeah, that threw me off too.] sung by Colin Meloy, lead singer of The Decemberists.
The album is a lot different as far as music goes. Usually, their albums are big orchestral numbers [like "The Mariner's Revenge" off of Picaresque].
Side Note: I saw the Decemberists and My Brightest Diamond live in 2007, and their performance of “The Mariner’s Revenge” was awesome. The song is almost 9 minutes long, and they ended the show with it. It was awesome.
Anyway, the album is pretty dark as far as lyrics/music goes. It’s a big turn from The Crain Wife [2006] which was relatively happy, even during the sadder songs.
This album is hard to swallow at first, even for fans, but let it grow on you and you’ll learn to love it.
The Hazards of Love is available for purchase on iTunes for $9.99 and will be available at retailers nationwide [for more money] on March 24.

So I bought Resident Evil 5 the day it came out [Friday the 13th] and have been playing it ever since. It is a huge upgrade from Resident Evil 4 and that in itself is a daring feat.
Game-play is pretty different because you now have *cue drumroll* ….A PARTNER! Woo! Instead of that dumb blonde bimbo from RE4, you know have someone who is competant and can fire a weapon! Yay covering fire! You can trade weapons, ammo, items, etc with your partner and do cool “cooperative actions” with them.

Welcome to Resident Evil 5! Yes...he is bleeding from his eyes.
The new setting [Africa] is pretty interesting because of the culture, although it tends to get slightly stereotypical later on in the game.
Let us move on to the game’s plot twists.
THERE ARE SO MANY OF THEM IT’S RIDICULOUS
Did I mention you can do split-screen Co-op AND Co-op over Xbox Live? Well you can.
Overall, there were a lot of areas in this game that could have been scarier rather than action-ier [?]. But even with this minor problem, the game is amazing. Well worth the $60 asking price.
Enjoy the “fear you can’t forget”.

Mae & Barcelona?!? Ahhhhh!!
Mae moved their hometown show in Norfolk to May 30. That means I have to wait two more months to see them. Sad-face…
Oh well, I’m still going regardless.

.cramer vs. stewart.

So, the interview between Jon Stewart and Jim Cramer [host of Mad Money on CNBC] was epic. Not like epic in terms of “Titanic” was an epic movie, but epic as in the clash between the Islamic and Western worlds.
The interview started out relatively civil, they joked about how they weren’t sure how the media turned a few jokes on the Daily Show in to an “Anti-Cramer” agenda of Jon Stewart’s. But then, things got really ugly.
Watch all three videos below. Warning: Explicit Language.
Part 1:
Part 2:
Part 3: This is where the interview gets really ugly. Little Jon Stewart becomes relentless and destroys Cramer, right here.
So here is what this means to me. This shows that someone on a “trusted” financial news network [Jim Cramer] now has less credability than someone who is running a faux news program on a channel that often airs the film Meatballs [Jon Stewart]. How did we come to this? How is it that we trust comedians more than financial experts?
Oh yeah, that’s right, the whole stock market collapse.
In an article dating August 15, 2008, the New York Times published this :
Really? Jon Stewart is tied with Anderson Cooper? I would probably take a bullet [not really] for Anderson Cooper because he is one of the few journalists I actually trust. He would be #1 on my list.
So in the battle of Jon Stewart vs. Jim Cramer, the winner is clearly Stewart. Cramer had no idea what hit him until it was too late for him to recover.
They did however, “make nice” at the end of the program.
Stewart won this debate, but I don’t actually think his victory means anything unless Cramer as well as CNBC gets to work fixing what they helped wrong.
