The Abortion Issue.

January 21st, 2009 § 1 Comment

First off: the song of the day is Vices by Anti-Flag off of their new album The Bright Lights of America.

So we were having a legitimate discussion about Abortion at my job today [WE being Eric, Neil, and myself]. Anyway, the subject of Abortion somehow came up as we were all playing Call of Duty 4 on Xbox Live together. Here is what we came up with:

Neil: is a social Conservative and a political Liberal. He doesn’t think abortion is okay, but this is only from a moral standpoint [this also does not make Neil a bad person]. Neil does, however, think the government shouldn’t be allowed to dictate what you do and with whom you do it with.Abortion

Eric: doesn’t really care what people do with their time. He doesn’t think abortion is right, per say, but thinks people should be allowed to control their bodies.

Myself: I’m very apathetic about abortion, I don’t really care, I’m not a woman, I can’t give birth, therefore, I can’t make decisions about those that can and do. I was raised to care about it…but I really just don’t…

We did all agree, however, on the fact that slutty girls should not be allowed to get as many abortions as they want. We agreed that you should be allowed ONE, incase something happens or you don’t plan on getting knocked up. So…save it up!

Abortion is one of those issues people are never going to agree on, just like Religion and Gay Rights and everything else. The government, however, shouldn’t be allowed to dictate what you do with your body or who you do it with [except when it comes to the age of consent...that is important and should be upheld...pedophiles are gross].

I don’t think abortion will ever be resolved…same with gay rights. It’s sad really…everyone deserves a chance to be happy, just because some Conservatives and Liberals need something to argue about, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be allowed to.

Anyway, later kids.

The Boondocks

The Freeman Family

The Boondocks may be one of the most culturally relevant and intelligent television shows ever to come in cartoon format. It’s funny that you can find intelligent comedy/drama/current events on a cartoon show on Cartoon Network’s “Adult Swim” at 12:30 in the morning.

The show follows the Freeman family [Robert: the grandpa, Riley: the mini-gangsta, and Huey: the revolutionary].

The Boondocks was originally a comic strip written by Aaron McGruder, which he had published in the University of Maryland’s student paper, The Diamondback.

Since then, the rights to The Boondocks have subsequently been sold to Sony Pictures Entertainment, where McGruder is the director of the series.

Seasons 1& 2 are available on DVD [which I own!] and Season 3 is rumored to be in the works.

The show itself covers topics such as race relations, religion, BET, suburban living, etc. There have only been two episodes banned in America [both because of rumored legal retaliation from BET]. The episodes are sequential, and I personally don’t see why they were banned. They were hilarious, although I guess if I worked at BET, I would be offended [slightly].

Anyway, this show is great. If you haven’t checked it out yet, YouTube it or go to adultswim.com. The show usually has guest stars/voice actors such as Samuel L. Jackson, Charlie Murphey, and Katt Williams.

This is probably my favorite show for a lot of reasons. Be sure to check it out.

The Rakes of Love

January 19th, 2009 § 1 Comment

So, the Decemberists are coming out with a new album. I for one, am very excited about this. I saw the Decemberists back in 2007 with two of my friends, and the show was amazing. It was full of energy and you could feel the band’s energy from the crowded room of the NorVa.

Decemberists

Anyway, they are offering a free download of one of their songs off of said new album.

www.decemberists.com

Well, I downloaded said track, from said album, off of said website. The song is called “The Rake’s Song”, and I’m still trying to figure out the logic/message behind it [most Decemberists songs always have some weird message behind them].

By the way, the song is banging. I’d put it on here for you to listen to, but I can’t quite figure out how to put music on this here blog. But you could always just download it from the site, it’s pretty good.

That’s all for now. Take it easy kids.

The Playoffs Can Suck It.

January 18th, 2009 § 1 Comment

So, I now hate the NFL.

I root for the Tennessee Titans, so NFL to us means “No Friggin Luck” rather than “National Football League”. So, after we got ripped off in the game against the Baltimore Ravens [anyone who wishes to argue the fact that it was CLEARLY a delay of game, can also suck it], I decided to root for the Philidelphia Eagles/Pittsburgh Steelers respectively.

So right now, it’s 5:15 PM in Virginia Beach, VA and the Eagles are losing 13-24 against the Arizona Cardinals…so I’ve decided to root for the Baltimore Ravens when they play against the Steelers…

Here is my reasoning: Every team I cheer for in the Playoffs, inexplicably loses the game. Now, I’m not so secretly hoping the Ravens choke and lose miserably against Ben Rothlesberger and Willie Parker and Hines Ward. I want this to happen. I want the Ravens to lose SO bad that they quit playing football altogether. I sort of hate Joe Flacco and Ray-Ray Lewis for what they did to the Titans.

Update: The Eagles are starting to come back, I’m cheering on the inside.

Anyway, since the Titans lost last week, I just don’t care about football anymore [outside of Madden 09, atleast]. If we go to the Playoffs next year and lose in our first game again, I will personally fire Jeff Fisher.

That’s all for now.

Cody.

Update: Sadly, even after a valiant rally in the 3rd and 4th quarters, the Eagles lost to the Cardinals 32-25…poor Brian Westbrook and Donovan McNabb.

Update #2: The Steelers beat the Ravens 23-14 but neither team got off without some damage. Lewis McGahee went to the hospital and Hines Ward hurt his knee, but the Steelers proved they were a good team even without him…too bad the Titans crumbled as soon as Chris Johnson went out with a busted right ankle…oh well.

Super Bowl XLIII : Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Arizona Cardinals

Folie á Deux

January 17th, 2009 § 1 Comment

folie-a-deuxI just got a copy of the new Fall Out Boy CD, Folie á Deux.

Fall Out Boy, since they’ve hit the mainstream, has done nothing but improve the quality of their music. They are doing what every band SHOULD be doing; IMPROVEMENT.

Their first major label album, From Under the Cork Tree was pretty good, and that one song about “going down swinging” was catchy and “Dance, Dance” was something nice to tap your feet too [and it was on Madden '06, which was pretty nifty]. Overall, I kind of liked that CD.

After From Under the Cork Tree was released in 2005, Fall Out Boy released Infinity on High in 2007. I didn’t buy this one, but I heard a lot of it on the radio, since their music has always been heavily trafficed through the local Alternative station [96x]. They had a lot of different styles of songs in it, instead of the usual “we’re friendly punk” feel the first album had. It was better than the first, but certainly not the best they could do.

I want to take a moment to talk about “Beat It”. Now, I know Michael Jackson takes a lot of bad rapp because he touches little kids and always gets away with it, but so does Kobe Bryant and so does R. Kelly. Michael Jackson is ACTUALLY a talented musician and “Thriller” is possibly one of the best albums EVER. When Fall Out Boy did a cover of “Beat It”, it was on repeat on my iPod for a good week or so. When good songs are covered, and it’s done right, the result is always impressive.

Now I reach my final point, Folie á Deux. This CD…is pretty much glorious. There isn’t a track on this CD that I skip over. It’s just so well produced. I don’t care if liking Fall Out Boy takes away my credibility, but they are talented. Patrick Stump has a very good voice and they are all pretty ridiculous at their respective instruments.

This CD was the best $13 I didn’t spend. It’s great to have friends that actually buy CDs nowadays.

That’s pretty much it…my musical experience today has been grand! :]

Cody

So I’m thinking I might take my blog in a new direction and just talk about music and occasionally rant about my life, but it’s just a thought. I don’t really know where I want to take this thing.

Reflections; Part One

January 16th, 2009 § Leave a Comment

I think over the course of our lives we become everything we hate before we can become something we can love. Whatever it is that we hate, we end up becoming it. A moucher? A liar? A cheater? A selfish prick? Chances are, if it’s the thing you hate and loathe the most in life, you’ll become just that.

Hate is such a wasted and useless emotion to have, it takes a lot of energy to hate someone/something with all your being. It feels good for awhile, but it takes its toll on you eventually. And it’s almost like God or Karma or Allah or Krishna are all just trying to prove a point to us: Stop the HATE, spread the LOVE.

Back to my main point; we are always going to hit a low, before we go higher. We’re always going to travel miles from where we want to be and I think it’s just us making our own lives harder. Simple, easy lives are boring. We all need a little drama and action in our lives, don’t you think? Lest we get bored.

This is just me thinking…the stuff about becoming what we hate the most was mostly what I’ve been thinking about all night…okay, maybe for the past week.
